Local SEO Checklist: 12 Fixes That Help You Show Up in the Map Pack

When someone nearby searches for what you do, the three businesses in the map pack get most of the calls. This checklist helps you become one of them.

For most local businesses, the Google map pack — the three listings shown with a map — is the most valuable spot in search. These are the fixes we start with for every local client.

Google Business Profile

  1. Choose the most accurate primary category. It is one of the strongest local ranking signals.
  2. Complete every field. Services, products, attributes, hours, holiday hours and a clear description.
  3. Add real photos regularly. Your team, your premises and your work — not stock images.
  4. Post updates. Offers, news and events show customers the business is active.
  5. Answer questions in the Q&A section before someone else does.

Reviews

  1. Ask every happy customer for a review with a short, direct link.
  2. Reply to every review — the good ones and especially the bad ones.

Your website

  1. Create a page for each main service and, if relevant, each location you serve.
  2. Show your name, address and phone number exactly as they appear on your profile.
  3. Add LocalBusiness structured data so search engines can read your details reliably.

Across the web

  1. Keep listings consistent on directories such as Justdial, Sulekha, Bing Places and Apple Maps.
  2. Earn local mentions from associations, local news and partners.

None of these steps is complicated on its own. The results come from doing all of them, consistently, month after month.
