How it works

How the PPC numbers are calculated.

Ad spend divided by your average cost per click gives the number of clicks. Your landing page conversion rate turns clicks into leads, and your lead-to-customer rate turns leads into customers. Multiplying by customer value gives revenue.

ROAS (return on ad spend) is revenue ÷ ad spend. ROI also includes the management fee: (revenue − ad spend − fee) ÷ (ad spend + fee).

Improving any one input — a lower CPC, a better landing page or a higher close rate — can change the result dramatically, which is why we optimise all three.

Where to find your numbers

  • Average CPC: Google Ads or Meta Ads Manager
  • Conversion rate: conversions ÷ clicks
  • Close rate: from your CRM or sales team
  • Customer value: average first purchase or lifetime value
  • Include every management cost

It depends on your margins. A business with 50% margins needs at least 2x ROAS to break even on ad spend; lower-margin businesses need more.

ROAS compares revenue with ad spend only. ROI compares profit with all costs, including management fees.

Better targeting, stronger ads, tighter keywords and — often most effective — a landing page that converts more visitors.
